Check your mode
Use the Action panel to choose an appropriate attack mode. Capture, peace and player-targeting modes change who an attack can affect; do not assume a hunting mode is safe in every map.

Watch the status panel
PK points and related character state are shown by the classic interface. Review them before joining an open-world fight, especially when travelling through busy maps.
