Gems and sockets

What gems do, how they fit, and why an empty socket still matters.

3 short steps
  1. 01Use a socketed item
  2. 02Common gem roles
  3. 03Removing and replacing

01

Use a socketed item

Equipment can have one or two sockets. Drag the appropriate gem into an available socket through the game's socket interface; the gem becomes part of that item.

An item with a socket but no gem is still useful: it gives you a choice between immediate power and trading it to someone who needs that slot.

02

Common gem roles

Dragon gems add physical attack. Phoenix gems add magic attack. Tortoise gems reduce incoming damage. Fury adds accuracy, Kylin improves durability and Rainbow increases experience gained.

Hover the item after socketing to see the exact bonus for the gem grade.

03

Removing and replacing

Treat a socket choice carefully. A gem is consumed when installed, so plan expensive upgrades before you commit sockets to a temporary weapon.
